There is no doubt that Canva is a wonderful tool for designers. You can make quick presentations, art, banners and many other graphic items. But if you look closely, most elements you use, including Typography are already created by a conventional graphics designer.

GIMP, Inkscape, Krita there are a lot of tools available for Linux users. Many artists think that Apple ecosystem is the only competent one. Linux has tools that are good and able to do advanced graphics.

Gradients are doing well these days. Apple wallpapers are one good example for that. People like the flow of colours instead of mix of colours. Gradients are free flow of colours from one to another.

I am trying to focus more on illustrations these days. I haven't practised it in a while. The main reason is people are looking for generalists than artists or graphics designers. Unless we have a vast skill set, it is hard to survive.

The older you get, the more designs you make, you start feeling things instead of drawing them. I don't know whether we can call it muscle memory, but it can be the creative equivalent. We just know what do next. What colour to use, which shape to draw etc etc.
