Internships really help a lot especially to students looking for skills and money at the same time. It has never been a trick, though the money is lesser but what you gain from it is far better than the money you are paid.

It depends on where the newbie is getting such an internship. If it is from a pro that understands what he or she is doing, then I don't see any big deal with being an intern there since you will gain experience as well as learning fast on how complex designs are done.

I wouldn't have even had a push at running graphic designs if not for the fact that I began learning under someone. This means that internship was really beneficial to me as a person.

Yes, I did and it was very useful. I had a personal experience with my mentor. He was an expert in designing and crafting. I decided to learn under him, though he didn't pay well but I was glad that I learnt a lot of things that's helping me till date from him.

I believe that the knowledge is what is the most important thing you should be interested in as someone working under internship because whatever knowledge you are getting from that arrangement is going to be worth more than any stipend they are going to pay you.

As someone who's working under internship, you're not paying any money for whatever you're being taught. If you're to pay to acquire the knowledge, it's going to cost a whole lot more than what you expect them to pay you.

Yes, it's like not paying to get knowledge on a big subject like graphics designing. There are so many branches in graphics designing which you can choose to focus on and become a professional at it. It's what can pay you very well.

You get it right. Graphic design is the smallest subject but have bigger topics in it. Find a good topic, be a professional and get your pay.

True. It's always going to be a win win situation for both parties. I think the intern wins more because they are being saved so much money to be paid for the skills.

If you're under internship, I don't think being paid should be your priority but getting the skills and knowledge which you need.

But most of the internship opportunities today are looking for free labor. They want someone that can do the work of a full term employee with very little pay.

It's true what you say but the real question is what the person (Intern) is going to gain? Does the intern have a long term plan for himself or herself?
