It can be hard for students that are just starting out to understand what they need to learn. They should pay attention to the following:
Visual Communication, Typography, Color Theory, Layout and Composition, Software Proficiency, Branding, UX/UI Design, Creativity, Problem-Solving, and Communication.

They should also know how to position themselves for opportunities.

I believe that focusing on all of them is actually very good but the most important thing is for the person to choose the ones that best align with what they are trying to learn at a particular time.

Also, it's a very important for them to study the graphic design tool they want to start learning with so that they can be able to manipulate it to their best advantage.

They should also know how to position themselves for opportunities.
Your assessment is very correct because after acquiring all those knowledge without knowing how to position and take advantage of any opportunity which comes up makes the person a failure.

Yes it is one thing to have the skills, it is another to be able to market themselves well for potential clients. This is a different skill they should develop on its own.

Software Proficiency is a very important skill to acquire as a graphics designer. This is because you will need to work with a particular software if not, there's nothing you can do as a graphics designer.

A graphic designer needs to know everything that's related with designing. There's none to leave behind, learn everything that comes with graphic design.

This might sound overwhelming to new ones that want to try it out. They don’t need to know much to start, but they can learn on the job.

They don't need to force it or try to get them at once. You start easy and also from the ones that you can try by yourself before going for the hard tools. The new ones can only feel overwhelmed if they want everything immediately.

For a newbie, one needs to pay attention to colour theory, typography and visual communication. From there, others can follow.

All of these are like the theoretical aspects of designs that must be studied at first. If you know it well you will be able to apply them in projects.

Building a solid foundation in the core principles is key. Start by learning the fundamentals of composition, colour theory and typography – they underpin every type of design work. Pair that with software skills by spending time in tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or free equivalents like GIMP and Inkscape, and practice bringing your ideas to life. Equally important are research and communication: study how others solve design problems, learn to articulate your choices and accept feedback, and develop your ability to listen to clients or team members. Finally, cultivate a growth mindset; design trends and tools change quickly, so being curious and adaptable will serve you well throughout your career.

From theory, one can put it to practical. But without learning the theory parts, it won't be so easy to practicalized what one have learnt.

Yes this is just like it’s being done in schools. It is from the theories that applications will be made for the practicals.

They teaches more theory in school than less practical and there's no way it would help until you go out your own way to learn the practical ways. This is where you put the theory to work.

I have always been a fan of working with practicals. There is barely anything to learn in theory, if you don’t work and have experience with the skills it’s impossible to master it.

I love practicing whatever I read from books. If it's teaching, I will like to try it and know how good I am. In fact, I love to try the practical aspects of things taught to me so that I can master them very well.

This is right as that is the only way that they can get better because one needs to be versatile in designing if they wish to handle more work that comes to them.

I've seen a lot of people who are new to graphic designing that are always in a rush to master everything within a short period of time. I believe that it is a wrong learning strategy because they will end up not getting lessons very well.

This does not always work though. Graphics design is still a versatile field, so one can also choose one and stick with it. For instance one can choose branding, logo design etc.

Rushing to master everything is a wrong strategy. It's never how it works. Learning needs process as the time goes. It's not a short time to learn rather it takes time.
